Before you select a grooming service here are some things to be aware of:

  • There is no requirement for licensing of dog groomers in Arizona. Anyone can pick up a pair of scissors and call themselves a dog groomer. So be careful. Ask questions about where they were trained, their years of experience and references. Look up their information on the company website if they have one. We also urge you for your dog's health and safety to contact your District Maricopa County Supervisor to urge them to require licensing of dog groomers in Maricopa County. Click here to go to a website that determines what district you live in based on your address. Once your fill out the form a new page will appear. Look at the entry Supervisiorial/MCCCD/SPHCD this provides your district number. The table below lists the name and e-mail of county supervisors by district.  To send an e-mail to your supervisor just click on the e-mail address.

  • For mobile grooming the vehicle is subject to a yearly inspection by Maricopa county. Make sure they have their Maricopa license displayed on their vehicle. If they don't then don't use them.
  • Inspect the interior of the vehicle. Make sure it is clean, has air conditioning, temperature controlled water, waste water storage and its own electrical generator
  • Make sure they have an electric lift to move your pet into and out of the bath fixture safely. Very important for larger pets.
  • As a matter of safety, make sure they have a restraint system that keeps your pet from falling off the grooming table or jumping out of the bath.
  • Ask if the electrical outlets are GFI(ground fault isolated). This protects against electrical malfunctions that could injure your pet.
  • Always look up the company on the web and get customer reviews. It is the best indicator of the quality of the service.
  • To insure your dog's safety we have TWO people in our vans. If one becomes incapacited for any reason the second person is there to handle any potential emergencies. You may have seen in the news a recent report where the dog died when the single groomer became incapacited. Click here to see the news report.
